The Wise woman tradition is the oldest healing tradition on the planet. And yet, as defined by Susun Weed in her book Healing Wise, it’s been invisible. It is invisible for so many reasons, and I won’t detail them all because you should really have the pleasure of reading her book! I agree with her “ that the Wise woman ways live in all of us, are deeply embedded in our collective consciousness and that it lives in the woman-self memory of each person”.
The Crone is the archetypal Wisewoman who keeps the flame alive. She is sometimes a midwife, and often the local healer. Crone wisdom is the knowledge of all that is important to the wellbeing of the collective She is the wise elder woman revered for her skills with common plants and healing. She educates us in the knowledge and traditions that protect our community.
Wise woman tradition is prevention. it is unique, yet common and accessible, nourishing, compassionate and transformational. “Flexible and common, claiming no healers, having no universities, no institutions, the Wise woman tradition is hard to see. I feel it as an invisible thread, humming with wholeness, ancient and vibrant, stitched through my life, stitched through the lives of all who went before and all who come after me. An invisible tenacious thread. “ writes Weed.
